Corozo is one of the most valued natural materials for buttons. If you have seen a button with a fine matte texture and deep color on an expensive jacket, it was likely made of corozo.
What is corozo
Corozo (tagua) is the dried seed of the Phytelephas palm, which grows in the tropical rainforests of South America. Once ripened and dried, the nut becomes extremely hard and dense – with properties similar to ivory. This is why the material is known as "vegetable ivory."
Advantages of corozo buttons
- Natural and eco-friendly material – it is harvested from fallen fruits without destroying trees.
- Durability – hard and wear-resistant.
- Beauty – fine natural texture; each button is slightly different.
- Takes dye well – which is why corozo buttons are available in a rich range of colors – from black and beige to blue, green, and red.
Suitable for what types of clothing
Corozo buttons are a traditional choice for classic jackets, suits, coats, and quality shirts. They combine a natural material with an elegant look. At Bul-tex, you will find them in the Corozo buttons category in 11 colors and sizes from 15 to 25 mm.
Care
- Wash at a low temperature and avoid prolonged soaking.
- Do not iron directly over the button.
- Avoid harsh detergents and bleach.
Frequently asked questions

No – it is an entirely natural plant material.
What is the difference between corozo and coconut?
Coconut buttons are made from the outer shell of a coconut and have a rougher, visible texture; corozo is smoother, denser, and can be dyed in rich colors.
