A cord lock is the small component on a hood, jacket, or backpack that holds a drawstring in the desired position. Without it, the cord loosens and slips out of the channel.
Types of cord locks
- Single hole – for a single cord or both ends threaded together.
- Double hole – each end of the cord passes through a separate hole; provides more stable fixation.
- Metal cord locks – durable with a premium look, available in nickel, gunmetal, and gold.
- Plastic cord locks – lightweight, designed for sports gear.
How to attach a cord lock
- Press the button on the cord lock – the spring releases the hole.
- Thread the cord (or both ends) through the hole while the button is pressed.
- Release the button – the cord lock secures in place.
- Finish the end of the cord with a cord end or a knot to prevent the cord lock from sliding off.
Cord ends
A cord end is placed at the end of a drawstring. It prevents the cord from fraying, adds weight, and provides a finished look. Metal cord ends are attached using pliers or by gluing. Check out our accessories – cord locks and cord ends in various shapes and colors.
How to choose the size
The opening of the cord lock should be slightly larger than the diameter of the cord (e.g., for a 4 mm cord, use a 5 mm opening). The cord end must match the thickness of the cord.
